Sourdough Sandwich Loaf

I knew I wanted to make some bread, I didn’t want to use instant yeast and I was tired of cleaning up crumbs out of every corner of my house from crusty artisan loaves! So sourdough sandwich loaf it is. It has a mild tang, a bit of whole wheat which made it very well balanced! This is a recipe that I will be using for a few recipes coming up, accompanied with a couple other items i’ve been working on.

This loaf turned out quite good on the first try. Mild cracking of the crust, soft and flavourful interior.

The real test for this recipe was how well it works for a grilled cheese. It passed this test with flying colours! I used aged cheddar, seasoned the interior with a spice mixture of paprika, garlic powder, curry powder and MSG. The bread was lathered in mayo and lightly dusted with the same spice mixture as the interior. It was grilled in a cast iron pan for roughly 5 minutes a side. That little extra spice and the little crispy cheesy bits that are from the cheese oozing out the sides into the hot pan made this incredible!!

This recipe is definitely getting added to my go to list. As I type this up have another batch getting ready to go. There are a few tweaks that i’ve made to make this a very versatile bread that can be used in many different scenarios.
